M-ettes second at district meet, Mustangs fifth

The Malta M-ettes placed second in the 2B district track meet in Glasgow last week. The team had a total of 117 points and placed eight athletes in the meet. They also will be taking both relay teams to divisionals in Great Falls this Saturday.

Sophia Stiles, a freshman again led the team in scoring, and placed first in each of the five events she attempted.

Stiles won the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.42. She also won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.73 and the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 47.0.

She also out-jumped many opponents in the triple jump after posting a leap of 17.25" and in the triple jump posting a distance of 34'4".

Darby Schye also gained a district crown. Her 35'5" effort in shot put earned her first place honors. Teammate Shay Garfield also placed in the event, taking fifth with a toss of 30'3.

Schye placed third in discus after throwing the disc 95'. Garfield also placed in discus, taking fourth with a throw of 92'6". Mary Grace Kalal took fifth in the event, with a throw of 91'4".

Schye also placed fifth in the 100 with a time of 14.12 and fifth in the 200 with a time of 28.98.

Jada Nicholson tied her personal best in the high jump, clearing 4-10, which was good enough for second in the event. Glasgow's Megan Daily was first with a jump over 5'3".

Marley Manoukian also punched her ticket, placing in three events. She placed second in the pole vault after clearing 7'6". Plentywood's Paige Harris took the event, after clearing 8'6".

Manoukian also placed third in the 300 hurdles, after posting a time of 51.55 and fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.48.

In addition to discus, Mary Grace Kalal placed fifth in the javelin throw, after leaving a mark at 92-10. Adrianna Bibeau placed sixth, after a throw of 88'11".

Riley Mortenson, the only Malta athlete who has run distance races, placed sixth in the 1600 meter run, with a time of 6:27.79. She also placed sixth in the 3200 meter run, posting a time of 15:31.02.

The short relay team posted a time of 54.72, which was good enough for third place.

The long relay team posted a time of 4:50.55, which gave them fourth.

MUSTANGS

The Mustangs placed fifth at the meet after scoring 33 points.

The team was led by Tyson Carney, who placed third in the pole vault after her cleared 8'6".

Ostin Welch did well in the triple jump, clearing a length of 37'6". He placed fourth in the event.

Nathan Veit placed fifth in discus, with a toss of 115'1".

The Mustangs placed third in the javelin throw. Veit lead the charge, with a throw of 141'10", that earned him a fourth place finish. Jase Bishop was right behind him after throwing a 141'5". He placed fifth. Tyson Carney placed sixth, with a throw of 137'7".

The short relay team placed third with a time of 48.31.

The long relay team placed fourth with a time of 4:03.25.
