Crazy Days in Malta on Saturday

How fast can you eat a slice of watermelon? One of the highlights for this Saturday’s Crazy Days in Malta will be a watermelon eating contest with a grand finale of an all age contest in which the winner will win a television from Albertsons.

There are going to be several age categories for the watermelon eating contest – in which prizes will be determined – with the TV contest to be the exclamation point.

“Come down and enter yourself, enter you kids, enter everyone you know,” said Albertsons Store Director Cheryl Voegel.

Voegel added that each entrant in the contest would most likely be given a door prize just for participating.

The day will also include kid’s games – see the Find the Dinosaur entry form on page 3B of this week’s PCN – and screaming deals from area merchants – see just about any ad in this week’s paper.

“This Saturday is going to be a lot of fun in Malta,” said Juli Snedigar, Executive Director of the Malta Chamber of Commerce.

The kid’s games will be held at Veteran’s Memorial Park downtown – aside from the Find the Dinosaur which will be at local merchant’s shops. The winner of the Dino Find game will be awarded $50 in Dino Dollars which can be redeemed at participating businesses. The festivities start at 10 a.m. on Saturday and run until 3 p.m.

“This is a day for the merchants to give back to the community with good deals, promotions and door prizes,” said Snedigar.

There will also be games hosted by local groups including the Cattlewomen and Walleye’s Unlimited.

If you would like to be a vendor at Crazy Days, or would like to volunteer your time to run games, please contact Juli at 654-1776.
