One Nation, Under God

Lula Ellen Duncan Webster

Lula Ellen Duncan Webster left this world on Sunday, August 3, 2014 after an extended illness during which daughter Susan moved back from Minnesota in March of 2012 to help care for her. For the last 19 months Ellen (as she was known to all) also received hospice care. Ellen was born in Dodson, MT on October 6, 1939 but a long-time resident of Fergus County and managed two different businesses in Lewistown. In the 1970s she and then husband, Bill Lindstrand, managed the Dash Inn, and in the 1980s she co-owned E & B Vending with husband William J. Webster. Ellen, worked at the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center for the Aged (State Home) from 1979 until she retired in 2001. She also worked at Pamida for about 14 years, some after her "official" retirement. Ellen was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary Drill Team, Pinochle Club, Marie Chapter #36 Order of Eastern Star, and bowling league. She loved crafts like sewing, knitting, making clowns, Precious Moments counted-cross stitch, and making doll's clothes.

Ellen had a quick wit and loved to share stories while playing cribbage or pinochle. Her stories were mostly true, but were great devices for her to distract her opponents so she could quickly add up her points and shuffle the cards together before anyone could catch on that she probably didn't really get as many points as the scorecards showed. Anyone who has been to her home knows that Ellen collected elephants and loved holidays. She probably had more than 1,000 elephants in sizes from a thumbnail to three-feet in length and every room in her home and even her yard were decorated for each holiday.

Ellen was the oldest child of Thomas "Bud" Allen Duncan and Emma Shellito Duncan Light. Ellen had two wonderful sets of parents with Bud and Georgia "Jo" Duncan (later Vassuer) and Emma and Glen Light with whom she split her time while growing up. Ellen was preceded in death by brothers Floyd Light, Glee Roy Light and Tommie Allan Duncan.

Ellen is survived by husband William "Billy" J. Webster; mothers Emma Light of Lewistown and Jo Vassuer of Omaha City, NE, sisters Kay Robin Light Hawthorne of Kentucky, Glena Light Gillett of Winnett, Linda Duncan Spear of Billings, MT, and Kelly Duncan Vezain of Red Lodge, MT; brother Donald R. Duncan of Alvin, TX; daughter Bobette Lindstrand of Billings, MT and Susan Brown Onstad of Great Falls, MT, foster daughter Bernadette Breckenridge of Arkansas; seven grandsons: Chad Onstad and Mike Onstad of Minnesota, Matthew Onstad of Billings, MT, Nathan Onstad of Watford City, ND, Christian Savoie of Billings, MT, and Dax Williams also of Billings, MT; and one granddaughter, Cassidy Brown of Billings, MT.

Funeral Services for Ellen Webster will be held Friday, August 8th, 2014 at 2 P.M. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
