Thomas Boos

MALTA-Thomas Boos, 76, a farmer passed away on August 2, 2014 at his home with his family at his side, after a long battle with COPD.

Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at the Kirkwood Funeral Home. Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Malta. Interment will be in the Malta Cemetery. Tom was born to August Anton and Anna Loretta (Young) Boos in Malta on December 30, 1937. He grew up on the family farm north of Dodson and graduated from Dodson High School in 1956. During high school he enjoyed sports, excelling in basketball and track. Tom married the love of his life Karen on November 27, 1965. Together they had two sons, Greg and Gary. Tom loved playing baseball and softball and continued playing softball until he was fifty. He coached little league when his sons were younger, and followed them right through legion baseball, and all sports, throughout their high school years.

Tom was employed by MDU in Malta for thirteen years then later worked as a heavy equipment operator for numerous construction companies in the state. During this time he helped run the family farm and ranch with his father and brother, later taking over the operation in 1998. He retired from the Malta Volunteer Fire Department after twenty years, and was a lifelong member of the Malta Knights of Columbus, a member of the Malta St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Montana National Guard for seven years. His real passion was playing guitar and singing, Tom formed a band in the early sixties and played at the old "Lobby" and "Stine's" night clubs. He continued playing and singing well into his seventies with his son Greg. Tom and his sons were avid hunting and fishing companions and looked forward each year to spending time together and camping out in the Missouri River Breaks archery hunting for elk. Tom loved time spent with his grandkids and with his itty personality they all did a lot of laughing together.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, August and Anna, five brothers, Joseph, Vincent, Bernard, Donnie and Leonard Boos. He is survived by his wife Karen of 49 years; sons, Greg of Malta, and Gary of Billings; four sisters, Lila Raymond, Evelyn (Bill) Starkey, Lewellyn (Dick) McNamara all of Malta, Mary Lou (Gene) Lavey of Scobey; three grandchildren, Kelcee, Hunter, and Walker Boos, one great grandchild, Ella Boos; numerous nieces and nephews.
