One Nation, Under God

Summer of 99

This year’s fair was pretty legit. I enjoyed it even more so than I did last year, due to the fact that I had the opportunity to attend more events.

This was the first time I have ever seen a tractor pull.

I have to admit I’d never put a vehicle under that much punishment. I will never hop on a bull to face two tons of fun after I’m thrown off like a rag doll. You couldn’t pay me to attempt to break a horse.

All those things were cool to watch though. From a distance.

Thank the Lord for that steel gate that protected me from getting rammed by those bucking broncs and ticked off bulls, otherwise those jokers would’ve took me out.

Onto another subject, food.

No disrespect to other vendors, but that “Heart attack” burger was legit. Something magical happens when a double cheeseburger meets bacon and caramelized onions.. Magic.

That burger came in the nick of time too because that 4-H beef show was making me salivate.

PETA might think I’m an animal for the last two paragraphs and I’d say they’re right. If you don’t like that I like beef, go into the pastures and eat with the cattle because this Afro-American will not settle for eating foliage.

I’ve found a way to solve some world hunger.

Certain countries and/or religions see cows as sacred and will not eat beef. That’s the problem.

While the bovine is a wonderful creature to look at, it is even more tasty.

So I say to those countries who are starving in order to worship cows, try it.

I seriously was impressed with the talent folks showed at the fair, whether in rodeo, exhibits, 4-H, motorsports or musically.

I didn’t make the concert. I wish I did only because I have heard that Vince Mace has talent on the guitar.

I’m not a fan of country music, but I can admire talent in any genre. Maybe not in pop music tho. Gag-a-maggot, that stuff is terrible and I think the main reason our world set on morals is changing.

Back to the fair.

I’ve got to say... Ray Harms is who we thought he is. His ribs were on point.

I’ve heard legends of his barbecue and the eager anticipation of his barbecue joint, but I had to try his food for myself.

Those ribs were a 12 on a ten-point scale and I will look forward to trying more whenever I can.

He also had these Fry Bread Fries (I refer to them as Fry-Fries).

Lord ham’ mercy I’ve never had anything so tasty. Smothered with Maple, those heavenly pieces of bread tasted even better than funnel cake, in my humble opinion.

This 99th fair rocked and I wish we not only had it once a year, but twice.

Really looking forward to next year as the fair hits 100 years.

One could only assume the fair board has something up their collective sleeves.

If the fair isn’t any bigger, I would like it just the same.

One thing I’m looking forward to is the display of Bonsai trees in the horticultural exhibit.

That brings me back to my youth, you know when I watched the original Karate Kid five times a week.
