Phillips County Health Care Foundation Dinner and Auction this Friday in Malta

The 23rd Annual Phillips County Health Care Foundation dinner and auction will be held this Friday at 5 p.m. at the Malta City Hall with all proceeds going to help purchase needed medical equipment for the Phillips County Hospital and Hi-Line Retirement Center.

Michelle Sather is the Director of the P.C. Health Care Foundation, a position she has held for the last two years, and she said that the organization's motto is short and sweet.

"Our motto is to 'keeping healthcare healthy'," she said.

The P.C. Health Care Foundation is a non-profit group that uses the proceeds from the dinner and auctions to buy medical equipment for the hospital and retirement center. Last year, the money raised at the event went toward the purchase of a blood-gas analyzer used to measure lung function and gas exchange.

"It basically allows the hospital to do blood work here in Malta instead of having to send it off," explained Sather. "It also aids in the care and treatment of patients with respiratory complications."

The no-host happy hour will start at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6 p.m. Liz Brown will be cooking a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. A new option for dinner goers this year is the reservation for a table of 10 people. With that reservation, two bottles of wine will accompany the meal.

Following the meal will be the live auction. Cliff Rustad will once again be the auctioneer for the event after a hiatus last year. Besides being the event's auctioneer, Rustad is also the brains behind the idea of the event.

"Cliff started it to provide cardiac equipment for our hospital," Sather said. "That was the original idea and it just kept going and took on a life of its own every year."

This year's event is the first time it has been held in January. In years past, the Annual Phillips County Health Care Foundation dinner and auction was held in October, but was changed this year so it wouldn't conflict with other fundraisers in the area at that time.

"We are hoping this will give us a bigger turnout," Sather added. "We are getting the word out there and getting a really good response from people."

Tickets for the event are $25 each and each ticket purchased will earn a ticket in the raffle drawings for 10 door prizes. Items up for auction this year include wine baskets, a spa day, two wine racks – one wooden, one crafted from horseshoes, a painting by Judy Michaels, quilts donated by Pat Messerly and Quilting by the Boarder, a chocolate lover's basket, two half beefs with processing and more.

"We have over 20 items as well as a raffle for a four wheeler, a rifle and a giant cooler," said Sather. "People don't have to be present at the benefit to win the raffles."

Tickets for the raffle are still available at Hardware Hanks, Car Quest, Valley Drug, Westside Self Service, Westside Sporting Goods, all three banks and they can be purchased at the benefit the night of the event.

"For the dinner tickets, they can be bought here at the hospital prior to Friday night," Sather added, "or you can buy them at the door. As far as the reserved tables, those need to be purchased in advance."

For more information about the event, people are encouraged to call the Phillips County Hospital at 654-1100 or Sather at 390-4430.
