One Nation, Under God

Lovin it!

It’s one of my favorite times of the year....

TOURNAMENT TIME!

To me there is nothing more suspenseful than a basketball game.

Since I started reporting sports news for the PCN I have been blessed and honored to see a few great tournament games.

Whether it be the Mustangs 2013 State Championship win against Wolf Point or last season’s Girl’s State sketchy double overtime loss to Fairfield, I have seen a few of the good ones.

I’m looking forward to this year’s post-season in hopes that most of our teams will punch their tickets to state.

This season has been great so far with many of our athletes getting accolades from other forms of media.

It was special to see Janessa Henry put up 43 points the other night.

She deserved at least 43 the way she hustled on the court. It wasn’t a game where she just shot the open shot. She fought for every bucket and did her best not to let the opposing Harlem Wildcats score on her team.

I was also honored to see what composure David Jaynes kept in the boys game later that night, when he was clearly being maliciously attacked and taunted by the other team, and though he was angry, he backed off for the sake of his team.

My son PJ has even gotten a chance to experience a few of those great moments and told me that if he was old enough he might have to place a bet or two, though I don’t know where he learned that because his daddy isn’t a betting man.

He also said he apologizes for missing Janessa Henry’s performance, but his bed time was at eight o’clock.

Though the little guy can’t walk yet, I’m excited to bring him to experience these post-season moments.

Everyone say a prayer for my wife’s back because toting PJ around can be a painful endeavor.

This was supposed to be a Valentine’s Day segment, however I’ve come to realize one thing.

I don’t think anything is more romantic than sports.

So if you’re out there reading this with your significant other tell that person...

“If going to a basketball game on Valentine’s Day is wrong, I don’t want to be right.”

All Phillips County Basketball teams have home games lined up for Valentine’s Day, so fellas get your lady a couple of flowers, a chocolate or two and a card.

Then after you’ve done that make your way out to one of these games.

If you’re feeling really adventurous make your way out to Billings to support our seven wrestlers that made it to state.

You can only truly know your significant other by how they behave during the game.
