Whitewater does well in both Cal Wearley, Havre Lions Meet

The Whitewater Lady Penguins track team took eighth place at the Havre Lions Meet last Saturday, with a total of 33 points.

Kourtney Simonson is off to a great start this season taking second in the 800 meter dash at the Cal Wearley Meet. She recorded a time of 2:34, which is seven sconds slower than her personal best,, which is 2:27.

"I'm happy with it, I just needed a starting point to improve on, so now I have it," Kourtney told the PCN.

She admitted that she still isn't in the best running shape she can be in, so she plans to keep training hard.

Simonson also ran the 800 at the Havre Lions Meet, and finished second with a time of 2:42.70. She finished fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:58.60 at the Havre Lions Meet.

Simonson took fourth in the 400 meter run at the Cal Wearley, with a time of 1:05.6.

Keira Simonson took fourth in discus with a throw of 82-09.50 at the Havre Lions. She had a throw of 79-05 at the Cal Wearley Meet.

Her best in the event is 85-00, but Simonson hopes to surpass that her senior year.

"My goal is to make it in the hundreds or more in discus," Keira said.

Keira recorded a throw of 21-04.75 in shot put at the Cal Wearley. It was her first time trying the event.

"I'm just trying to help myself with discus I guess," Keira said.

She said shot put would help her with her technique, specifically with building muscle and staying lower.

Larimie Scheffelmear placed fifth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 7:06.10. Scheffelmear also took sixth in the 3200 meter run, with a time of 15:02.

Running in the junior varsity 300 meter hurdles, Angel Tovar took third at the Cal Wearley with a time of 1:01.81.

"I thought I was going to do better," Tovar said after clipping the last hurdle. "I'm hoping next time I can do better."

Her time was great for her first time, however Tovar hopes to clear all hurdles.

Tovar took seventh in the junior varsity 100 meter hurdles at the Cal Wearley Meet with a time of 23.54 and ninth in the varsity 100 meter hurdles at the Havre Lions Meet, with a time of 21.95.

Tatim Moore took seventh in the 100 meter hurdles in both Meets. She had a time of 18.73 at the Cal Wearley Meet and 20.20 at the Lions Meet.

The girls short relay team took fourth at the Lions Meet with a time of 58.25. The long relay team also took fourth with a time of 5:39.40.

For the boys team, Jeret Warren led, placing fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:06.00 at the Havre Lions Meet. He also took fifth in the 3200 at the Cal Wearley Meet with a time of 11:24.2.

Warren took fourth in the 1600 at the Cal Wearley with a time of 5:16.4. He placed sixth at the Havre Lions Meet wiith a time of 5:25.20.

Trace Simonson fared well in the junior varsity Meet taking first place in the javelin throw, with a throw of 123-07.

Simonson placed tenth in the javelin throw at the Havre Lions Meet in the varsity Meet with a throw of 118-00.

He took first in the 400 meter runs at the junior varsity Meets during both events.

At the Cal Wearley Meet, Simonson recorded a time of 57.44 and. He then recorded a time of 60.00 at the Havre Lions Meet.

He placed seventh twice last week in discus as a varsity thrower.

He recorded a throw of 108-09 at the Havre Lions Meet and 106-01 at the Cal Wearley Meet.

The boys long relay team consisting of Simonson, Cody Scheffelmear, Trey Simanton and Warren took sixth after recording a time of 4:06.57 at the Cal Wearley Memorial.

Competing as a junior varsity athlete, Trey Simanton took first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.90 at the Havre Lions Meet. He took second at the Cal Wearley, recording a time of 20.04.

He took second in the 300 meter hurdles at the Havre Lions Meet wiith a time of 51.10. He took third at the Cal Wearley with a time of 52.24.

As a junior varsity athlete, Scheffelmear recorded a jump of 4-08 at the Cal Wearley and took home second place.

Scheffelmear took second in the 300 meter hurdles at the Havre Lions Meet with a time of 51.64. He took fourth at the Havre Lions Meet with a time of 56.00. He took seventh in long jump at the Cal Wearley with a leap of 14-04.50.

For the junior varsity girls, Kayleigh Cummings took first place in the 3200 meter run with a time of at the Cal Wearley Meet.

"Those laps get longer and longer," Cummings said after running her first 3200 run of her high school career.

Though she ran a good time at the Meet, she admitted that she could work a little harder in practice.

"I wasn't really wanted to compete, I just wanted to get and stay in shape," Cummings said.

Serena Sanguins took second in discus, with a throw of 65-00 at the Lions Meet. Sanguins threw 55-06 at the Cal Wearley.

Sanguins also took fourth in both the javelin throw (43-06) and shot put (21-10) at the Havre Lions Meet.

She is also tackling javelin this year, though she only practiced the even, one day before the Meet.

"I still need to practice but I'm hoping to improve from last year," Sanguins said, noting that her personal best is at round the 50 mark.

Being a sophomore, Sanguins is more confident this year, than she was at her first Meet last year.

"I plan to hit maybe 60 or past 60-08," she said.

Alexandria Santillan took fourth in discus (63-05) and shot put 21-02.75 at the Cal Wearley Meet.

It was her first meet of Santillan's career and she thought she did better than she anticipated. Being a junior, Santillan has some pretty high goals this season.

"I want to do a 70 to 80 in discus," Santillan said.

She also plans on doubling her range in shot put and then go beyond that.

"I've got a lot of work to do," Santillan said.
