One Nation, Under God

Helen Hanlin Blevins

Helen Hanlin Blevins passed away March 14, 2015 in Salem, Oregon after suffering a series of strokes.

Helen, the only child of Mabel and Harry Hanlin, was born July 23, 1929. She grew up in Malta, graduating from Malta High School, and after attaining a degree in business administration from MSU, Missoula, she returned to Malta working in various offices.

She met WWII veteran Homer Blevins and on New Year’s Day in 1951, they were united in marriage in the Little White Church.

Helen’s grandparents, Peter and Lousie Clark came from Ontario, Canada homesteading here in 1896 and were among those early day residents, who contributed to the building of Malta’s first church which later became the Little White Church. In the spring of 1954 Homer and Helen moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where they made their home, and where their only child, Linda was born.

In 1979, the family moved to Salem, Oregon for their retirement years. Since both Homer and Helen enjoyed boating and fishing, they became members of a fishing club. They enjoyed the activities and friendships until health problems prevented participation.

Helen was known for her great sense of humor and pleasure in watching the Portland Trail Blazers, her favorite team.

Helens parents and her beloved Homer preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Linda and her husband Mike Buell, her grandson Justin Fisk and sister-in-law Bessie Mae Waters.

Memorial graveside services will be in Malta Cemetery, Tuesday, July 21; at 11 a.m. Pastor Kent Gordon is Officiating, luncheon following in The Little White Church fellowship room.
