One Nation, Under God

Football rivalries with my sisters

Well it has been an interesting weekend in my household. My younger sister Jada happens to be a Bengals fan. I am a diehard Steelers fan. If you don’t already know, Pittsburgh won the AFC Wildcard Playoff game in interesting fashion. With less than 2 minutes left, Cincinnati committed two costly penalties. This put the Steelers in position to kick the game winning field goal in the final seconds of the game. Having lost all hope after the Landry Jones interception. I went absolutely insane as we won the game… I noticed how beautiful rivalries can be.

Now that the game is behind us, I think I feel more sorry for my little sister than the Bengals. They had the game won. All they had to do was hold onto the ball. No turnovers, and they would have won their first playoff game in 25 years. The curse is real, Cincinnati just cannot get past the first round of the playoffs, despite winning the AFC North. On top of turning the ball over, they committed two senseless penalties allowing the Steelers into field goal position. I have never witnessed a team self destruct like that, but I am so happy they did. Thank you Burfict for everything you did for the Steelers Saturday.

The past week my family has been warning friends that my younger sister and I were facing a showdown. I really need to take it easy on her now that this game is behind us. What can I say, I like to gloat when my team wins, especially when it’s against the Bengals. If you don’t know my sister she is soft-spoken, genuine, and an all-around sweetheart. Despite all of this, nobody is safe from the glory of a Pittsburgh Steelers win when I am around.

This one is for my sisters Hailey and Jada, I want you to know what team is the best. It’s not the Bengals, and it surely isn’t the Broncos. Which, interestingly enough, happens to be Hailey’s favorite team. The showdown continues next week as the Steelers take on the Broncos at Mile High Stadium, and the stakes are high! Unlike Jada, Hailey will surely rub it in my face if we are unable to win. Where Jada is mild-mannered, Hailey is ruthlessly blunt and straightforward. It’s safe to say my parents are grateful we will not be in the same town for this game. Things could get ugly.

Thank you everybody for the wonderful semester break, it was awesome seeing you all. As I travel back to Bozeman my heart and mind are full of all the wonderful things you guys have said about my writing. It means a lot. Until next time Malta,

Brandon
