One Nation, Under God

James W. "Papa Jim" Dooner

James W. "Papa Jim" Dooner passed away at home February 4, 2016. Born February 11, 1938 to J. Marion (Campbell) and Walter F. Dooner, he was raised in Malta, MT. In 1958, Jim married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Faye Cauffman. That same year, he joined the Navy and proudly served his country for 20 years. The father of six kids, he loved to say he had all boys except for 5 girls! He was a wonderful dad; spending as much time with us as he possibly could. We will always cherish the great memories of him taking us on weekend trips to the beach, coaching our softball teams, and simply playing catch in the front yard.

A highly driven man, he taught us the value of hard work; there wasn't a job he didn't do without total pride. A skilled artist and craftsman, he enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture or creating something new in his shop. Always the gentleman, he could tell a great story or silly joke to anyone that he met and instantly make a new friend. He truly loved his family, his Catholic Faith, his beloved pets, and his many, many friends. Papa will be remembered for his joyful smile, his beautiful singing voice, and his generous spirit.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Faye; his parents; brothers Gary, Bubby, and Donnie, and his sisters Phyllis and Mary Ann.

Jim is survived by his children, Phyllis (Rick Lyytinen) Reynolds, Pamela Dooner, Penny Dooner, Mike (Vonnie) Dooner, Patty (John) VanHoudt, Phalynda (Keith) Lusnia; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved him.
