One Nation, Under God

I'm building a forge

A couple of weeks ago my wife Susan and I decided to go out of town. We thought maybe we would go to Billings. Then we changed our destination to Great Falls.

About the time we got to Dodson, we decided that a drive to Great Falls would be too long and we changed it to a trip to Havre.

It was a good trip. By some miracle our son decided to take a nap rather than make the loud and obnoxious noises that two year olds do when they are bored.

We shopped around for a couple of hours and then we were about to head home, when I thought we should explore the town of Havre a little longer.

Our journey led us to a shop that offers tours of Havre Underground.

Since moving to Malta, I have heard of the underground exhibit and have since then been curious.

Apparently my wife was planning on taking me there on my birthday next Wednesday, but she thought we should do it on our family outing.

The exhibit was incredible. The fact that there was such a big network underground was eye-opening.

I really enjoyed the sights and history I learned underground. I won’t give too much away just in case people might want to check it out, however I will share my favorite exhibit, the blacksmith exhibit.

I would like to think that if it were the early 1900’s I would love to have been a blacksmith. There’s just something about forming metal with fire that intrigues me.

I have never forged anything in my life but I really want to learn. My first order of business would be to forge a kitchen knife, an old hickory type of knife for de-boning chickens.

I would also create decorative swords. Swords that look great on your wall over a mantle but when the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be good to go.

Joking aside, I think it would be a great trade to learn and a good workout.

PJ seemed to like Havre Underground as well but he wanted to play in the exhibits, so it was a mistake not bringing his stroller.

Other than that we grabbed some coffee from a shop and headed home.
