One Nation, Under God

Veterans honored throughout Phillips County

Throughout Phillips County last week, Military Veterans who have bravely served this country were celebrated by schools, local businesses and organizations, starting with a breakfast-celebration at Malta's Head Start School on Thursday and concluding with a Veteran's Program at Saco School on Monday.

From free coffee to free dinner, and from patriotic songs to the American Flag flying proudly around the county, Veterans of this great country were rightly celebrated.

On Friday at Malta Elementary School, school music teachers Erik Engebretson and Larry Swingen led the elementary band and choir in several songs in the school's gym which was packed with students, teachers, family and friends to honor those who served. Mr. Swingen opened the festivities on the piano with The Star-Spangled Banner and ended with God Bless America -- the band also played Yankee Doodle and a portion of the Marines' Hymn.
