Two place in Denver

Wilke retains PPK crown, Oxarart takes second at regionals

Malta's chapter of the National Football League's Play 60 Pass, Punt and Kick had been busy this season. The season ended for the local competitors on Sunday, December 18 as its' top competitors Tailynn Wilke and Kazner Oxarart both in the 6-7 age bracket were able to place in their classes. Wilke won her regional age bracket Girls 6-7 for the second season in a row at the Denver Broncos Practice Facility. Her total was 125. Oxarart was able to take second place with a total of 150 feet.

The event took place before the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots game at Sports Authority Field (at Mile High Stadium) in Denver Colorado. The Patriots won 16-3.

"They had a great time and both competed very well," Malta Athletic Club member and Malta PPK Leader Dennis Oxarart said.

The duo finished in the top two of their age bracket, so they the opportunity to garner the attention of the massive crowd of 76,893.

"It was an enjoyable day," Dennis said. "They got to go out on the field at halftime, had their name announced over the P.A. and both threw a pass. I was impressed with both of them, just the way that they didn't choke under pressure and both performed very well."

Their totals give them the chance to attend the 2017 Pro Bowl in Hawaii if their scores are amongst the top four in the nation.

Wilke won her age bracket for the second year in a row.

"She's pretty dedicated," Oxarart said. "She definitely understands the competition part of it. You gotta make it count. There is only one shot at each punt, pass and kick. She kept her focus and competed very well."

Oxarart's son Kazner had been showing growth as he did through the local Malta competition and sectional competition in Lewistown.

"He kept up with his average that he had in Lewistown," Dennis said. "He went up 45 from his competition in Malta to Lewistown. It was pretty cool that neither of them cracked under the pressure. There were 400 people watching, they were at the Denver Broncos Practice Field and neither one of them wavered. It was like they were at home practicing."
