2017 Alpha Zeta Writing Contest winners honored

2017 marked the 26th annual writing contest sponsored by the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. This year’s theme, “What will you be doing in 30 years?” saw the students take many approaches to their stories, but most included changes in technology that will affect their lives.

Three hundred and fifty-five essays were entered for cash prizes in six grade levels, K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12. The contest is open to all students in Phillips County and Hinsdale. Essays were critiqued by two judges in each category with first, second, third, and honorable mention places named. One Grand Prize winner was chosen from the top winners in each level.

The awards program was held March 30 at the Saco School with Doris Tollefson and Valeria Schmauch emceeing the evening. Award winners present read their essays to a full house of supportive friends and relatives.
