One Nation, Under God

A Cubs fan gave me a teary eye

Sometimes social media videos can bring out all kinds of emotions in people. No, this isn’t about our President, but it is linked to America’s past time.

Now that I’ve cleaned up my Facebook page from obnoxious keyboard politicians things are looking up. My page has since been overrun with sports and cute animal videos. I never in a million years thought I would enjoy videos of cats and baby goats but seeing my two year old react to those things is priceless.

I also stumbled across some videos that tug at the heart strings.

This particular video featured a pre-teen Cubs fan somewhere in Indiana who was rewarded for his hard work on his family’s ranch. Apparently the father had noticed how hard his son had been working and then on video he told the son that they would be working on something that was going to be a day long chore.

The son agreed to do whatever his father asked him.

His father then handed him an envelope. When the son opened the envelope to his surprise there were two tickets to a Cubs, Cardinals game at Wrigley Field.

I’m a White Sox fan so I could care less about the Cubs but the son’s reaction was priceless. He cried. And not just a little cry it was the happiest, ugliest cry of joy that I have seen in a long time.

It was good to see a kid’s hard work pay off in what clearly was an important part of his life, a baseball game.

Not only was the obedience of that young man important but so was the reward that the father gave him.

I hope to raise my son and possible future children to work hard but also reward them in ways that make them celebrate with ugly cries that could go viral on the internet.
