County Volunteer Fire fighters earn $5K grant

The Phillips County Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Town Pump Charitable Foundation last week and the department hopes to use the funds for Wild Land Urban Interface Equipment and Training.

Greg Kelsey, Fire Department Communications Officer, said he saw the grant application in the Phillips County News and decided to apply.

“We think it is great and didn’t really expect anything,” he said. “This is a really great grant because there is no matching fund. If we had to accept this grant at $5,000 matching funds, we probably would have had to do some more fundraising.”

A letter from Town Pump Charitable Foundation President Maureen Kenneally said that the Phillips County Volunteer Fire Department’s application was one of 113 they received.

"It is difficult to find the proper words to express our appreciation for the perils you face to keep our communities safe," she said. "Thank you."
