YUH DON'T SAY

Yes, What?

A very nice old lady had a few words to say to her granddaughter.

"My dear," said the old lady, "I wish you would do something for me. There are two words I wish you would promise me never to use. One is 'swell" and the other is 'lousy.' Would you promise me that?"

"Why sure, Granny," said the girl, "what are the words?"

Don Cole Family in hot spot

Mr. and Mrs. Don Cole and sons, Bill and Mike, were passengers on the Western Airlines plane which made a precautionary landing at Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah, July 15 for what officials thought was a blown nose wheel tire.

Mr. and Mrs. Cole and sons had boarded the plane at Butte en route to Disneyland. Just after the takeoff, the recapping on one of the two nose wheels was apparently torn loose. The plane circled Butte while the ground crew searched for rubber and the crew then made plans for the landing at Ogden.

As a precautionary measure the runway used by the Lockheed Electra and was smothered with foam prior to the landing to prevent any accidental fire. Cole stated that they had a chance to watch the fire engines and ambulances assemble as the plane circled the field. Passengers were to put their heads between their knees.

Cole told the News that it was all "too exciting" and he believed he would take another mode of transportation for his next vacation.

Crops good in spite of dryness

July 1967 was a dry month for Malta. In a report furnished by the Bureau of Reclamation precipitation totaled .22 inches for the month. This according to the records, is the least precipitation to fall since 1954 when .24 inches were recorded.

Despite the extremely dry year, crops have been reported as surprisingly good as harvest gets under way in Phillips County. Yields of 20 and 25 bushels per acre of 61-pound wheat was reported on the Iven Blatter farm south of Malta.

Editor's Note: The total rainfall thus far in Malta for July, 2017, is .93 inches, all but 0.01 fell on July 11th, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
