J. L. Moore, the Ford agent, has received his new closed in car that was built to order for his own private use. Of course, it is a Ford, but something out of the ordinary. It has a fine pair of double-plate glass windows and is finally upholstered and will comfortably seat five persons. The motor is almost noiseless and when riding in his handsome new car he imagines he is pulling a Pullman.

The Great Northern Railroad has authorized a 30-foot extension on the east end of the depot at Malta and the work will commence at once. This will give much-added room for the freight warehouse and freight will not have to be dumped all over the ground as at present. A new depot is being built in Wagner.

The Malta Commercial Club received copies of two referendums from the US Chamber of Commerce. The first was a report of the railroad committee on questions of railroad regulations and the second was a report of the special committee on control of prices during the war.

The consensus of hundreds of commercial clubs and similar organizations is being made throughout the country.

About the meanest fellow we know is the one who sleeps all through the sermon and then refuses to see the collection plate when it goes by.

The enormous number of claims from exemptions from Army service constitute a shame to American manhood and a disgrace to our country. All honor to that numerous contingent who win the war was assured they probably tendered their services. All honor to another group who are not so quick to volunteer yet when the call came, stepped forward like men and took their medicine with similar faces. Such as they have made this the proud country it is today.

City plans fight against Halloween crime

Halloween is still a month away but the Malta City Council feels that it isn’t too early to do a little thinking about the problem which arose in the area last year.

Police Chief Ralph Young told the council Monday night he had plans to enlist the aid of the high school students and possibly members of the National Guard to prevent Halloween occurrences as such happened last year.

The Council felt that Malta students and businessmen could do a great deal to prevent vandalism by cleaning up and putting aside many of the articles which are shown about the city street each Halloween.
