Mavericks fall to Class B opponent

Mavs lose to Wolf Point, defeat Brockton

The North Country Mavericks hosted Class B's Wolf Point Lady Wolves for Saco High School's Senior Night last Thursday, September 21, but the team bounced back with a dominant win over Brockton last Saturday, September 23 in Whitewater.

All three Saco seniors were honored including Bailey Funk, Jada Sudbrack and Sydney Zeller.

"The moms definitely set up something for us tonight," Zeller said in appreciation.

The parents also set up a breakaway banner which read, "Mess with the (Mavericks Logo), get the horns."

"We definitely started things with a bang," Zeller said.

According to the event's program, Funk plans to go to Montana State University to study Agricultural Business, Sudbrack plans on going to Montana State University Northern to pursue a degree in nursing as well as possibly continuing her volleyball career and Zeller plans to attend South Dakota State University to major in Chiropractic services and minor as a Nurse Practitioner.

In the team's loss to Wolf Point that night, the scores were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-19.

The team was led by Sydney Zeller who had seven kills, six digs and four aces. Mickayla Johnson had five blocks and Casity Boucher had 13 assists.

After the game Zeller was asked what went wrong in their loss.

"Honestly, I think we can work together as a team more, talk to each other and I think we will be okay," Zeller said.

The Mavericks had 27 kills, 21 digs, 15 assists, nine aces and six blocks.

Though the Mavericks could not pull off a win against Wolf Point, Zeller knew the key to defeating their next opponent.

"Work as a team," Zeller said.

In the team's win over the Brockton Warriors, the Mavericks won in three, the scores being 25-6, 25-11 and 25-14.

The team was led by Sudbrack who had four kills and one block. Danika Soper had seven aces and Boucher had six assists. The team had a total of 10 kills, 22 aces, nine assists and one block.

The Mavericks have proven they have the ability to win games, so Zeller was asked about the games that have gone well for them this season.

"We definitely get really, really excited," Zeller said. "We definitely come together as a team when we score and score and score and just keep beating down the other team. It's fun."
