'Urban Legends' abound

This year’s Malta High School Fall Play will leave viewers on the edge of their seat, as the play Urban Legends will coincide with the Halloween holiday.

This year’s play which will consist of both Malta High School and Malta Middle School students is called Urban Legends. The play is set to have its’ first night on Monday, October 23, at 7 p.m.

On the second night, the event will start earlier for the “MHS Culinary Arts Dinner Theatre.” The dinner will be on Tuesday, October 24, at the Malta junior/senior high school cafeteria at 5:45 p.m. for Hors D’oeuvres. Dinner service will begin at 6 p.m. The play will start at 7 p.m.

“It’s a bunch of skits all centered around urban legends,” Malta High School Drama teacher Anna LaBrie told the PCN.

LaBrie mentioned the play was filled with many scenes though she only gave a couple of examples.

“There is a scene about picking up a hitch-hiker,” LaBrie said. “There is a scene about a girl who is home alone. I don’t want to say the names of these skits because you might know them.”

Though it is a suspenseful play, the audience shouldn’t expect anything over the top.

“We don’t see anybody die on stage,” LaBrie said. “But there is death. The play is made to get some hairs raised on the back of your neck. It is right around Halloween, so we are trying to scare you.”

Though Mrs. LaBrie assured that the play was a scary event, Malta senior Travis Epperson believes it could be a family event.

“I would say it’s a family play,” Epperson said.

Epperson and the MHS & MMS crews have been working on the play since Monday, September 18.

“We have practice on the weekdays, roughly two hours each evening,” Epperson said. “It’s starting to come together. We just need to work on our lines more and just get better into character.”

Epperson, who has been a part of the MHS Theatre plays for the past three years, shared why the community should come out to see the play.

“There are a whole bunch of stories together and it is entertaining,” Epperson said. “It will be a fun time.”

Epperson’s younger brother Keith Epperson, a sophomore, has been benefiting from having an older sibling.

“It’s helpful because he can help me remember my lines,” K. Epperson said. “If he has practice I do too, so he gives me a ride.”
