Haunted House Horrors

The intent of the crew assembling the Phillips County Ambulance Association's Haunted House isn't to terrify anyone...but we all have heard of a certain road that is paved with good intentions.

"There are 13 scenes but we are not trying to horrify anyone," P.C. Ambulance's Gina Lamb said. "We want it to be scary and we want it to be suspenseful, but we don't want to scare people so bad that they don't come back."

This year marks the 14th Haunted House in the basement of Stretch's Pizza and the event will be once again held on two nights; Friday and Saturday, October 27 and 28, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. both nights. Like last year, a trip through the Haunted House will cost $5 for regular admission, $4 if you donate a can a food and $4 for repeat visits through the maze.

Last year, a total of 284 visitors made the trek through the dark basement, weaving in and out of scenes that left many a hair raised and many a bump goosed. All canned goods were donated to the Malta Food Bank and the P.C. Ambulance donated $500 to the fund for a new pool in Malta.

Unlike last year, the entrance to the Haunted House has moved from Front Street side of Stretch's to the alley between the pizzeria and KMMR Radio's building.

The Haunted House received a new prop this year - courtesy of longtime EMT from Saco, Glenn Fisher -and although the Haunted House crew didn't want to give away the surprise, they were willing to admit that the item was bigger than a breadbox, smaller than a bus, and will most likely be on display in the basement's waiting room.

The ghosts, ghouls, and goons who will be on display over the two nights of the event will be costumed and have their make up done by Heather Jenkins, Jessica Weston and TaChante' Cole.

"Around every corner is the possibility for new adventures," Lamb said.

Of the dozen or so Haunted House crew on hand last Friday, each agreed that the preparation and setting up of the event is the most fun. The crew thanked everyone who donated more Halloween items for the house last year and said that if anyone has any heavy, black fabric (similar to the type put down for weeds) that they can always use it.
