M-ettes set for 2B Tourney

Malta drops final game of regular season

textThe Malta M-ettes hope to earn their spot in the Northern B Divisional Volleyball Tournament, which would give the team a chance to play on their home court for one more weekend.

First, the team has to earn one of four spots to the Northern B by winning two games this upcoming weekend at the 2017 2B District tournament in Wolf Point. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, October 27, and conclude on Saturday, October 28 in the afternoon.

Having placed second overall in the regular season, Malta will take on third place Wolf Point, who Malta had a 1-1 split with during the year.

"We just have to be ready because anything can happen," Co-Coach Tasha Hines told the PCN. "We need to show up ready to perform no matter who we are playing."

She shared a little about the Wolves, having had faced them twice this year.

"They have some good blockers and you can gain some good momentum through those blockers pretty quick," Coach Hines said. "Our girls need to step up their blocking game when we play against them because if we do then we gain the momentum."

The winner will likely take on the first place Glasgow Scotties at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the semi-finals for a right to the Championship game on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Malta has not defeated Glasgow this season, but the team pushed the Scotties into extra serves in the fifth frame of a game earlier this season.

"When we play Glasgow what we have to do is mentally prepare for that fast tempo," Coach Hines said. "If we slow down to take a breath they can use that to take the momentum."

Malta lost 3-2 to Roundup on Thursday, October 19 during the team's senior night. This was after Malta lost the momentum of the game despite holding a two set advantage.
