One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News and Opinion for November 15, 2017

Sympathy to the family of Judy Martz, former governor of Montana.

Merry Christmas! (Haha.) It snowed and is so cold it already feels like December. I hope this weather doesn’t last all winter.

A salute to Carrie and Jesse Simonson on caring for so many foster children as well as their own son! Carrie took three babies to Maryland to see family! Jesse cared for the others at home during her trip. (They have adopted all three children.)

Welcome back to Nancy LaBrie. Also, welcome to the new workers on the Swift Fox study project.

Most of the ranchers here are shipping. Huge trucks of cattle have come through Whitewater daily, some to Billings. Trains used to ship cattle in the 1940’s and 50’s but I am not sure if the trains carry cattle any longer?

In Whitewater, we had a little train we called the “Galloping Goose. It carried the mail and groceries for the store as well as a few passengers and some cattle and our sheep. My father rode the train (usually to Chicago, Ill.) to care for the animals. The “Galloping Goose” train left Glasgow, went to Saco, Whitewater, Turner and Hogeland and then made return trips. We rode it sometimes and I love a train…maybe I will take a trip on Amtrak.

Here is part of my Poem entitled “Ode to the Galloping Goose.”

They’ve taken out the railroad tracks!

Our train ain't coming back.

Galloping Goose is gone.

The train ain’t coming home!

Sad, isn’t it?

Happy birthday to all November birthdays and stay warm.

Helen A.
