Dodson falls short to Turner

Coyotes, Lady Coyotes to face two tough Co-ops

The Dodson Coyotes and Lady Coyotes lost a pair of games to the Turner Tornadoes teams in Dodson on Friday, January 26 at the Coyote Den.

The coyotes lost 57-52, led by Tyrese Messerly and Shaun Ball, who both scored 13 points.

Corbin LoneBear had 11 points, David Jaynes had nine points, Caleb Ditmar had four points, and Michael Jaynes had two points.

Turner would gain a 15-9 start at the end of the first quarter and would end the half with a 29-22 lead.

Dodson fought back in the third and hold the Tornadoes to 10 points while scoring 19. Dodson’s efforts fell short in the fourth as Turner was able to get to the charity stripe for ten shots, only to knock down each attempt. The Tornadoes scored a total of 18 points. Dodson would score 11.

The Lady Coyotes lost 58-35 to the Lady Tornadoes earlier that night.

The Lady Coyotes were led by Melony Fetter, who had 18 points which included four treys. Tiffany Cliff scored six points, Shontelle Talks Different had five points, Christina Jaynes and Laney Cole both had two points.

The Lady Coyotes ended the first quarter with a 7-6 lead, but offenses went separate directions in the second with Turner scoring 21 points, while Dodson was held to nine. The halftime score was 29-16.

“The first half ended with us having 14 fouls to their zero fouls,” Lady Coyote Head Coach Deserae KillEagle said. “This is just unacceptable... A lack of disciplined defense and allowing their defense to control us offensively.”

Turner would continue to score effectively in the third and fourth quarters putting up 16 and 13 points respectively, while Dodson scored eight in the third and 11 in the fourth.

Dodson will square off against Roy-Winifred on Thursday, February 1, with the JV Boys game starting at 4 p.m. The Coyotes teams will then come back to Dodson to defend their home-court against the North Country Mavericks on Saturday, February 3, with games starting 4 p.m.

Coach KillEagle mentioned some things that the Lady Coyotes would be working on.

“Heading into this week we are going to focus on being more disciplined defensively and taking high percentage shots offensively,” Coach KillEagle said. “We need to be more aggressive in attacking the basket and putting up shots confidently. Both teams we face this weekend are bigger and solid in their fundamentals, so we need to be on top of our defense and blocking out. We need to make a statement throughout the entire game.”
