Don Raymond Chase

Don Raymond Chase, 91, a resident of Butte since 1966, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, at St. James Healthcare surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Malta, Mont., the son of Hazel McNaught and Arthur Chase. Don received his education in Malta. His family traveled the region, doing farm work. It was a hard life during the Great Depression. He served his country, joining the Army at 18 during the last years of World War II.

On July 3, 1948, he married Agnes "Aggie" Marie Maloney. To this marriage, three children were born: Daniel Christopher, Dawn Marie, and Kimberly Ann. The family moved around Montana where Don worked various road construction jobs and then for Great Northern Railroad in Havre and finally settled in Butte, Mont., as a truck driver in the Berkeley Pit for the Anaconda Company. Don retired from the Anaconda Company in 1982.

Don was a free spirit. He was always looking for the next big deal. He loved cars and enjoyed having a beer with friends and relatives.

He is survived by his wife, Aggie and his son, Dan (Nedra) of Butte; daughter, Kim (Bill) Neuhardt of Seattle; and his sister, Marylou Sintler from Malta. He is also survived by nine grandchildren -- Cyndra (C.J.) Fulton, Kelsey Chase, Jonathan (Ashley) Neuhardt, Shad (Jen) Wolf, Nathan (Jami) Wolf, Justin Wolf, Megan Drew (Doug Brumbaugh), Kaytte Drew, Alex (Jenny) Drew; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews from the Chase, Maloney, Lang, Reed, Vylasek, Durocher, Groth, and Sintler Clans.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Marie Drew in 2008 and his grandson, Jacob Neuhardt in 2010; his two brothers, Aaron Chase and Bill Chase; and sisters, Edith Groth, Dorothy Durocher, and Mary Ann Vylasek.

Mass and Memorial will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Butte, Mont. Visitation and Mass will be at 11 a.m. Military Honors will be provided by the United Veteran's Council immediately following the Mass. Lunch Reception at the Eastside Athletic Club at 3200 Dexter.
