One Nation, Under God

Talent Show Thursday at Boys & Girls Club in Malta

The Malta Boys & Girls Club has been participating in the National Boys & Girls Club Week, a five-day event that allows local children to experience the club with no fee.

The event will be highlighted this year with a Club’s Got Talent event on Thursday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. The event is located at the Malta Boys & Girls auditorium at 101 South 7th Street West.

The event will feature Club Members from kindergarten to eighth grade.

The idea for the event started a couple years ago when former Club volunteer John Waters of Malta, put together an event. Waters has since moved and Katrina Rich, a Club teacher picked up the reigns.

“We didn’t do it last year and this year, I suggested we should do it again this year because the kids have been asking about doing another talent show,” Rich told the PCN.

Rich remembered the event that happened in 2016.

“There was singing, there was dancing, there was magic,” Rich said. “There was a tuba player, I believe.”

When Rich told the members that the talent show was happening there was an array of reactions, but a spot for everyone.

“Most of the kids were excited,” Rich said. “Not everyone is a performer and there are a handful of kids that are helping backstage. Not everyone wanted to be on stage, which I completely understand.”

The event will also feature an Ice Cream Social after the performances, and it’s not just vanilla and chocolate.

“We have tons of flavored ice cream,” Rich said. “Cookie dough, strawberry, Hostess flavored. All of those types.”

The following are the entries for the talent show in no particular order: Kori Kelsey – sing; MJ Beaman – dance; Rose Alexander, Adreanna Nelson and Lillyanna Nelson – gymnastic; Roxy Hickel, Rhylee Jo Martin-Kelley, Summer Bessman, Maddy Tatafu – sing; Layla Messerly – ukulele; Courtney Merriman, Kimber Kovach, Bentlie Grant – dance; Janae Messerly – sing; Kylie Bishop, Emree Stuart, Brooklyn Knowles – sing; Emauni Johannesen – sing; MyKayla Davis – sing; Duke Williamson, Dawson Hammond – basketball trick; Justine Lamb – basketball; Amelia Walking Eagle, Renzey Raymond, Tilli Werk – dance. Bella Rich and Taya Wilke will emcee the event.
