One Nation, Under God

My great failure Part 1

Several months ago I found out that Taco Bell was going to serve french fries. As many locals know, the closest Taco Bell from Malta is 200 miles away.

I have loved Taco Bell since I was in utero. How do I know this? My mother always tells me that when she was pregnant with me, she would crave Taco Bell.

The one thing I would change about the Hi-Line would be adding Taco Bell franchises to every town. Instead, I have to wait until I get to Great Falls or Billings to feast on a XXL Grilled Stuft Burrito, Cheesy Gordita Crunch and, or various other confections associated with my favorite restaurant.

So, I have been itching to skip town to try the aforementioned fries.

Because the fact that the winter of 2017-18 was so brutal, I had missed out on traveling to several sporting events held in Billings or Great Falls, but always on my mind was Taco Bell. My wife was pregnant with Lincoln and it didn’t seem wise to travel with her already nervous about the roads being rougher than usual.

Last weekend, we had a baby appointment and had the chance to go to Billings, and of course, I had one thing on my mind. Taco Bell.

For our first meal, we had decided not to go to the Bell because for one, I am lactose-intolerant, which by the way has never stopped me from eating what I love, but there are consequences. Another reason is because well, Taco Bell is a bit rough on the guts in general.

So we succumbed to our fear of getting sour stomachs on our first day in Billings. Until of course, we didn’t. The next thing you know, we are headed to the home of Doritos Locos tacos.

At the drive-thru, I was so excited that I forgot to order their fries, and ended up ordering a Triple Melt Burrito, Cheesy Gordita Crunch, and a soft shelled taco. It didn’t even occur to me until the next day that I have whiffed on an opportunity to solve my curiosity.

I had failed that day but the trip wasn’t over. More to come at another time.
