Psycho Sports Cartel back for third act

Psycho Sports Cartel (PSC) is back!

The group of high flying freestyle motocross riders are on their way back to Malta to bring their death-defying act to the 16th Annual Phillips County Car Show on Saturday, June 2 and then to the Hi-Line Dragstrip on Sunday, June 3.

"I think they are very pumped," said Shane Carnahan, the event's coordinator. "They love it up here. Everybody treats them so well. It's literally becoming their second home."

According to Carnahan, the hospitality that Malta has shown the group over the past couple of events keeps them coming back.

"Living in the cities they forget what it's like to have genuine people that walk up to them and shake their hands and say thank you," Carnahan said. "In big cities, there is always something going on so it's never a big deal, there's always another show."

According to Carnahan, the event will have two freestyle jumpers with a possible third rider, along with a freestyle biker.

Coming to Malta this year will be Travis Cady, a rider from Lame Deer. Cady injured himself during the group's first run in Malta during a practice run but bounced back to put on a show in 2017.

Pat Manzi, a Freestyle Street biker from Spokane, Wash., was a new addition to the PSC show last year and will be returning to Malta for another run.

"I'm sure he will put on a good show as always," Carnahan said.

This year the group will also bring Cody Cavanaugh, of Neenah, Wis., who has never been to Malta. According to the team's website, Psychosportscartel.com, Cavanaugh has been riding for 15 years and his favorite trick is the Helicopter. Cavanaugh has the ability to do flips, which is something missed out on last year.

"He has got a 1700 mile haul ahead of him," Carnahan said. "He will be bringing the ramps with him."

According to Carnahan, Cady is excited about the ramps headed to the Car Show.

"He rode Cody's ramp about 30 times," Carnahan said. "He really likes it. The ramp actually pops you a little higher than the other ones we have brought here in the past. So there will be big floaters, seat grabs."

Jason Springfield rode in the 2016 event in Malta but was limited to spectating last year due to an injury he sustained by over-rotating a backflip that ended in a broken collarbone.

"He plans on coming back but (a while ago) he got in a wreck in his pickup," Carnahan said. "Springfield is a flipper, so if he is able to ride we will have two guys flipping."

There will be a total of three shows this year. The first show will be on Saturday, June 2 at 11 a.m. followed by the second at 1 p.m. The group will have a third show at the Hi-Line Dragstrip on Sunday, June 3.
