One Nation, Under God

Crazy Days set to invade Malta this Saturday

Antiques, sidewalk sales and watermelon eating contests, oh my!

Those are just a small glint of the events happening around Malta as Crazy Days hits the area this Saturday.

Your favorite Malta Merchants will be open normal business hours this Saturday with sales spilling out on to the sidewalk while fun and games happen at Veteran’s Memorial Park. A water slide is tentatively scheduled for the kid’s games in the Veteran’s Memorial Park and there will be watermelon eating contests for a few different age ranges complete with prizes for the winners.

“Crazy Day” is a tradition that started in Phillips County at least 30 years ago as a headline in a 1989 Phillips County News read; “It’s Dizzyland in Malta, “Crazy Day” is Saturday” while the story talked of a Dizzyland meet and greet with people wearing somewhat terrifying knock-off costumes of Disney characters. Nearly 30 years later, Crazy Days is still a stalwart-event each summer in Malta.

The H.G. Robinson House and Phillips County Museum will also be hosting events this Saturday including a vintage quilt show inside the house and outside the house, at least 10-vendors will be set up selling everything from antiques, to collectibles, handmade knives and repurposed items.

Malta Merchants Committee President Julie Snellman said vendors interested in participating in the day can still sign up for spots in the park as late as the morning of the event. Spots are $20 per vendor for non-Chamber members and $10 per Malta Chamber of Commerce member. (Julie can be reached by email at [email protected] or 654-2251.)

For a detailed list of the day’s events, vendors and activities, visit the Crazy Days Event on the Chamber’s Facebook page or call the office at 654-1776. Look in this edition of the PCN for sales and deals from individual merchant shops.
