Free grief support classes in Malta

Six-week sessions cover multitude of subjects

A free, six-week course on handling grief will be taught at the Phillips County Nurses office in Malta starting this Wednesday, July 25, by Pastor Joe Haney in hopes of helping people deal with the loss of a loved one.

“With so many elderly people in Phillips County and the demographics of the area changing, there is a higher percentage of elderly people losing spouses, or maybe losing a brother or a sister, that I think these classes are important,” Pastor Haney said. “Being able to deal with these complex feelings of grief and loss, some instruction is needed.”

This is the second year that the grief guidance classes have been taught in Malta by Pastor Haney and will be held each week for the next six Wednesdays, at no cost, at the Nurses office located at 105 S 2nd Ave E. Pastor Haney said that course study will include a basic introduction which will include what to do during a time of loss, how to deal with the feelings of sorrow and pain.

“We are going to look at the anatomy of grief and really dive into why our feelings tend to betray us at those times,” he added.

The course will also provide classes on the spiritual aspect of grief and how God helps widows; health and why it is important to remain healthy during times of sorrow; as well as a section with Phillips County Attorney on the proper way to deal with wills and inheritance.

“We invite all who have had a recent loss in their family to join us and it will be kind of an open forum with some discussion and some instruction,” Pastor Haney said.

Pastor Haney said that if people miss a class, they are still welcome to attend other sessions during the six weeks of study. For more information, contact Pastor Haney at 406-301-3675 or call the Phillips County Nurses office at 654-2521.

“I would ask that people come with an open heart and be willing to share their experience and how they can find healing through instruction and with God’s help,” Pastor Haney concluded.
