An unusual event happened Saturday morning at the Phillips County Fair when judge Claude Windecker decided the top six 4-H baby entries. All six of the winners came from the same 4-H club, the Cross Country 4-H Club of Whitewater. Pictured from the left with their steers are Pat Dunbar with is grand champion, Allie Olsen with his reserve champion and Dorine Brown, LeRoy Simonson, George Anderson, and Lynn Simonson. In the rear are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Math, leaders of the club.

The August call for men for the army took about 45 Phillips County residents. We find a few we know, among them, John DeKoning, John Boettcher, Matt Gagen, Fred Hoppe, and Hans Kvale.

The Council of Defense composed of F. W. Hall, J. F. Kilduff, and Harry Cosner, had ordered all livestock owners to prevent their stock from running over, trampling or destroying any growing crops.
