MALTA - Frances M. Slade, 90, passed away September 12, 2018, at the Phillips County Hospital of natural causes.
The family received friends Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Funeral services were Monday at the Malta Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Malta Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Frances was born in Malta on December 23, 1927, to William and Olga Armstrong. She resided in Malta all her life, attending Northern Montana College after high school. She married Earl Slade on June 12, 1948, in the Malta Lutheran Church and was the love of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They all stopped often for after school snacks before heading off to various activities. She loved to garden and shared her produce and canned goods with many.
Frances was very active in the Malta Lutheran Church and was the first woman to serve on the church counsel. She was also the longest-serving council member. She quilted faithfully and, was honored in later years with her own space "Fran's Corner." She had a beautiful voice and sang for over 70 years in the church choir.
She worked for Louie LaRouche at the abstract office and was at the Bowdoin Wildlife Refuge for over 25 years. She was a member of WIFE and the Red Hat Society.
Frances is survived by her sons, Dale, and Bud (Beth) both of Malta; daughters, Laurel "Sis" Mann of Butte and Kathy "Kak" Sorbel of Malta; sister, Dorothy Christensen of Malta; eight grandchildren and 9 ½ great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Slade; parents, William and Olga Armstrong; brother Roland Agard, sister Blanche Deo Matovich; grandson, Mark Slade; great-grandson, Joshua Mann; sons-in-law, Smuck Mann and Greg Sorbel; daughter-in-law Joelyn Slade.
We love you mom and will miss your generous and loving nature. Heaven has gained a very special Angel.
