The races that took place at Fort Belknap were held on the bike path adjacent to Highway 66, heading south. The path was not real wide and after the starting gun went off, it was important to get a good position at the start, and that’s just what Leslie Young, Jillian O’Brien, and Nikki Nicholson did. They jockeyed for position in the top group and kept a good steady pace throughout the course that was paved, with small rolling hills where they ran one and a half miles south and then turned around and headed north back over the same course and to the finish where the Harlem high school pep band played peppy tunes for the fans waiting anxiously for the race to unfold. Leslie started strong and kept a steady pace, and had a good kick at the end and barely missed the medals. Jillian and Nikki ran together, starting fast and keeping a steady pace, and the last quarter of a mile, Nikki pulled away and finished the race with a good kick and posted her fastest time of the season. Jillian had a great kick, and posted her second fastest time of the season.

Kaycee Bond had a great race, keeping with the front pack of runners, taking one runner at a time. She had a great kick at the end and posted her second fastest time of the year. Her advice to Mira Heitland, who runs with her, was to just take one runner at a time, and with that advice, Mira ran her fastest time this season. Danie Rhodes, whose been running with an injury and Taylor Gilkerson, who was out with some sickness last week, ran together during the race, pushing and encouraged each other to keep strong.

Taylor Eggebrecht and Chloe Hunter, running their last race, started out strong and kept a good steady pace, and Taylor posting her second fastest time this season and Chloe running one of her faster times this season as well.

This was a good meet, with great competition. It was a good way to end the regular season, with the sun shining and warming up spirits, after a few weeks of cold and wet weather. With this meet in the record books, we look forward to participating at the State B girls race on Saturday October 20.
