After a short trip back to North Carolina, Mac and Brown settled in Zortman, where they made numerous friends and enjoyed their surroundings.

Mac had many interesting stories of his past and enjoyed telling them. He made friends wherever he went and could remember names and stories of most of them. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He treasured the scenery of the Missouri breaks and the Little Rocky Mountains while he explored sites in the Zortman area.
