M-ettes advance to Divisional Tourney after 2nd place finish

The M-ettes fought their way back from a first-round loss at the District 2B volleyball tournament to win second place after three straight wins to se-cure a berth at the Northern B Divisional this week in Cut Bank. Malta opens play against Shelby on Thursday, November 1 at 11:45 a.m.

Malta faced rival Glasgow in the opening round of play last Friday, the second contest of the District 2B Tournament, and fell in four sets, 25-22, 25-11, 22-25, and 25-18, for the 4-1 loss.

The first-round loss in the double-elimination tourney pushed the M-ettes into loser-out action later in the day against Poplar who lost the first con-test of the day to Harlem. Malta swept that game 25-15, 25-7, and 25-18 to advance to the final Friday match against Harlem.

With the season on the line again - win or go home - the M-ettes earned a 3-1 win, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, and 25-14 sending the Wildcats to a fourth-place finish at the tournament and pushing Malta to Saturday's first match of the day, a rematch against Glasgow.

Malta then avenged the open round loss with a 4-1 win over the Lady Scotties, 25-23, 25-14, 20-25, and 25-18, sending Glasgow packing while securing no worse than second place at the tournament and advancing to postseason play this week.

The M-ettes saw their three-game winning streak snapped against Wolf Point in the championship -25-16, 25-18, and 25-21 - giving Wolf Point the District 2B crown with Malta earning second place.
