One Nation, Under God

Marilyne Carol Matovich Jensen

Marilyne Carol Matovich Jensen was born on December 8, 1941, in Oregon City, Ore., to Martin J. and Edith (Jensen) Matovich. She was the first of three children. After her father's brief employment in Oregon the family moved back to Montana, spending a few years in Columbus while taking part in a family business endeavor. Later the family moved to a ranch south of Malta where the children were raised. She graduated from Malta High School in 1959. Marilyne married Bert “Bud” LaBrie and from that union, a daughter was born. She later became Marilyne Monroe, marrying Monte Monroe; they had two children together, a son and a daughter. Her final marriage was to Jack Jensen lasting 47 years until his passing in 2016; together they had three sons.

In her earlier years, Marilyne worked for the ASCS offices in Malta and in Glasgow, Mont. During the 1970’s, she and Jack and the children helped her father operate the Sleeping Buffalo Resort outside of Saco, Mont., for several years. She also provided home health care and worked at OB's Cafe in Saco. Working with the public throughout her life in this small community, Marilyne became known for her quick wit and straight-forward attitude. During her final years, Marilyne returned to Columbus, MT, where she resided at Meadowlark Assisted Living.

Marilyne was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Edith; brother, William; husband, Jack; stepson, Jack Jr.; grandson, Jeremy Monroe; and granddaughter, Vanessa Hoock. Marilyne is survived by her sister, Karen (Ray); children, Jennifer (Scott), Burl (Rita), Robin (Gary), Michele, Monte (Dana), Jess (Darlee), Marty (Anita), Bart (Kay); grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Tyler, Cole, Keegan, Logan, Derek, Sierra, Jack, Tel, Ireland; and great-grandchildren, Parker, Hunter, Jack, Rosalie, Jett, Harlee, Cash and Huk.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the staff at Meadowlark Assisted Living for their dedication, compassion, and care for Marilyne.

Memorial services will be held at the Saco Lutheran Church in Saco, Mont., on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 1 p.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the same location. The family will be doing a private interment at a later time.
