Putt Crawl, Parade of Lights highlight weekend in Malta

The 7th annual Malta Area Chamber of Commerce Putt Crawl tees off a busy couple of days in Malta as that event swings into action on Saturday, November 17 and is followed by the "YOU are the Holly to Malta's Jolly" event and Parade of Lights on Sunday, November 18th.

Malta Chamber Executive Director Ann Sautter told the PCN that it was decided this year to move the Parade of Lights from Halloween week to a day closer to Christmas and with the recent change in the weather, the timing looks to have been spot on.

"And it helps people focus on one holiday for their floats," Sautter said. "The theme this year is a "Wild West Christmas" and people have told me they have some fun ideas for their floats."

Line-up for the parade on Sunday will start at 4 p.m. at the Hi-Line Retirement Center and get underway at 4:30 p.m., making its way to Front Street (and businesses will close for the parade, but other than that will be open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. See the parade route on below.)

The "YOU are the Holly to Malta's Jolly" is an event where guest pre-purchase $15 gift bags - sale of the bags began on November 5, runs through November 17, and can be purchased at all local banks and Family Matters - which will include prizes from local businesses, coupons, as well as Chamber Buttons which will offer a lucky button holder a shot at winning a $250 in Dino Dollars. The Chamber button drawing will be held at 6 p.m.

As for the event that kicks it all off, the annual Putt Crawl, Sautter said there are plenty of teams already registered for the event but added that no teams will be turned away and can show up for registration at Stretch's Pizza from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on the 17th.

"Come down to Stretch's, Come to Stretch's to register, pick up your Putt Crawl goodies and off you go," she said.

The cost for each four-person team is $60 and rides will be available throughout the evening from Phillips Transit Authority. A nine-hole course awaits your team, with each stop on the course designed by the local establishment. Stops will be at the Tin Cup, Blue Ridge Brewery, Kid Curry, Westside Casino, the GN, the Mint, Stockman's, the Lucky Bullet and Stretch's.

Some added fun for the night is the team costume contest. Last year, costumes included President Trump and a few of his Secret Service agents, the cast of the Golden Girls, and a few SnapChat filters and emojis. Prizes will be awarded to the best team costume. Prizes will also be handed out for the best overall score, the worst overall score and best course stop. Winners for the Costume and Course stop will be awarded for those the most likes on their pictures on our Chamber Facebook page. Even if you aren't golfing, head to our page to vote for your favorites," Sautter said. "It all comes to its completion at the Lucky Bullet with the Closing and Award Ceremony. It is always a good time and this year won't be any different."
