One Nation, Under God

More fat, less weight

I don’t even like talking about weight loss anymore because I always seem to jinx myself the moment I write about it.

This time may be different because I am participating in a diet that I don’t really hate. Like many things in life, I have mixed reviews about this diet— or um lifestyle.

My first beef with it was that like all diets I have started in previous years, I chose to start this late in the year. Thanksgiving was not normal for me, or should I say “us” since my wife does this too.

With this keto diet, you can have fat, protein, and fiber but it is a diet extremely low in carbohydrates and sugar. For Thanksgiving, this meant that my favorite dish, yams, were off the menu.

Over the past six years, I have missed plenty of things that I would typically have for Thanksgiving, like macaroni and cheese, sweet potato pie, spaghetti, greens, cranberry sauce, and ham. But knowing that I couldn’t have yams this year nearly made me change my mind.

Luckily, Susan and I stayed the course and had a plate of turkey, ham, Brussel sprouts and deviled eggs; most of which was covered in butter.

On a positive note, I now fit into a few old pairs of jeans that I haven’t been able to fit for a while and I have lost 15 pounds since I started the Keto Diet one month ago. How I did so, was extremely sketchy.

We’ve been learning this diet as we go, and the first month featured lots of bacon, eggs, cheese, meat, and various veggies.

I have tried various diets over the years and this one is weird because everything we eat is rich and flavorful, but it is extremely strict.

My days of eating and dreaming of eating Taco Bell is over. I eat pizza with a crust made of cheese and spices. All my desserts have been sugar-free, which isn’t that bad, but I would do something illegal for a Reese’s Big Cup. In doing this, we have found plenty of help through various social media groups as well as people around the P.C. area that are doing the same diet.

I must reiterate that this has been the weirdest, yet best, diet that I have been on and I look forward to seeing where it will take me as I push to lose at least 50 more pounds.
