Lady Coyotes defend the Den from Rivals JV

The Dodson Lady Coyotes Varsity picked up a 61-20 win over the Nashua-Opheim JV team last Friday night at the Coyote Den.

The team then took on the Scobey Spartans on Saturday, December 15, and lost 59-34.

The Lady Coyotes are scheduled to take on the Turner Tornadoes in Dodson's final home game of 2018. The game is set to start at 6 p.m.

In the team's win over the Nashua-Opheim JV, the Lady Coyotes were led by Kailee Henry who had 28 points, five steals, and three rebounds. Henry had four treys in the win. Ella Messerly had 19 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

Henry, a junior and Messerly, a sophomore, had their first game in the Coyote Den since they attended Dodson Middle School.

"It's nice to have them back," Lady Coyote Captain Christina Jaynes said. "We played together when we were younger but they both went their opposite directions, and when they came back I was like, 'yes!' my girls are back. I was hoping it was true."

Jaynes had six points, 17 rebounds, and six steals. Lindsey Fetter had three points, fifteen rebounds, and eight steals. Ireland Best had three points. Shania KillEagle had two points.

According to Jaynes working together was the key to Dodson's victory.

"Teamwork," she said. "No one was selfish and we shred the ball. When we play teams no one has to focus on one player because there is so much talent on our teams and we are not selfish about it. We share our wealth."

The win marked Dodson's first home win in their first home stand of the 2018-19 season. Minutes before the game ended, Jaynes sustained an injury while going for a rebound, so Jaynes was bittersweet about the win.

"It feels good," Jaynes said. "I wish I was 100 percent so that I could enjoy it more. I have been fighting a sickness since the first weekend of fall, so I love that we won, we played together as a team.

In the Lady Coyotes' loss to Scobey, Dodson was led by Messerly, who scored 18 points and had three steals. Henry had 11 points. Jean Jackson had three points. Jaynes had two points, nine rebounds and three steals.
