Christmas Dinner for Senior Citizens...A group of Malta's senior citizens were treated to Christmas Dinner at Smith's Café on Christmas Day. Hosts were K. P. Murray, Dan Nicholson, Bud Hasler, Elmer Mayhew, and the Mon-Can Rodeo Co. Taking part in the holiday repast were, front row from the left to right, Martin Gjersing, John Dufloth, Shaw Andrews, Harry Ofstos and Tom Dewar; middle row, Willie Ferrell, August Gleich, John Ivan, John LaRocue, Hank Kittleson, and Nick Forthoffar. Back row, John Riskem, Nolan Souten, John Vole, John Cherry, Oliver Anderson, Al Bigby, Joe Goroskey, and Archie Ulness. Frank Sperry also attended the dinner but is not pictured. 1969.

100 years ago

January 10, 1919

Pupils of the fifth grade, neither absent nor tardy for the month included Lewis Johnson, Esther Edwards, and Lochiel Edwards, while Violet Veseth and Lochiel had a 100 percent attendance for the year.


John A. Tressler, local attorney, was elected state Republican Chairman.


Scholarships at four units of the state university were awarded to Elmer Hendrickson, Dick Henderson, Hans Mebust, Pete Mebust, Blanche Brumley, Vern Thaden, and Margaret Gagen, all of whom where members of the Boys and Girls Club in the county.
