3C Girls are ready for District Tourney

The North Country Lady Mavericks and Dodson Lady Coyotes enter this weekend's 3C District Tournament as the second and third seed respectively.

Both teams will have to work hard to punch their ticket to the 2019 Eastern C Divisional in Glasgow. The Eastern C Divisional is scheduled to start on Wednesday, February 20, and end on Saturday, February 23.

Six Eastern C teams will square off this weekend to earn one of only three spots in the Eastern C. The teams included in this year's 3C tourney are top-seed Scobey, second-seed North Country, third-seed Dodson, fourth-seed Frazer, fifth-seed Lustre, and sixth-seed Nashua-Opheim. The 3C Tourney is set to start on Wednesday, February 13, at 6 p.m.

The Lady Mavericks will see their first action on Thursday, as they take on the winner of the Dodson and Nashua-Opheim game. Though North Country has swept both of the possible semi-final opponents in the regular season, North Country Head Coach Amber Erickson knows not to take anyone in this or any other tournament lightly.

"I think that the girls have worked really hard all year to get a little bit better every weekend," Coach Erickson said. "We are going to work really hard to make fewer mistakes and play four solid quarters every game."

Dodson has gotten the better of Nashua-Opheim this season twice by an average of over 30 points, including a 77-28 win in a late January game. The teams will meet for a third time this season at 7:30 on Wednesday.

The Lady Coyotes defeated Lustre Christian 65-30 on Saturday, February 9, in Dodson. The Lady Coyotes were led by Ella Messerly who scored 26 points and Kailee Henry who scored 24.

"The girls played the best game they have all season Saturday night against the Lustre Lions," Dodson Head Coach Deserae Kill Eagle said. "Kailee and Issabella combined for 50 points."

Christina Jaynes had nine points. Lindsay Fetter had three points. Shania Kill Eagle had two points, and Serena Chandler had one point.

"Along with the scoring Kailee had at least 10 assists for both games this weekend and Christina Jaynes with at least 10 rebounds each game," Coach Kill Eagle said.

Dodson also defeated the Frazer Bearcubs 63-41 on Friday, February 8, in Frazer. Henry led the team with 27 points. Jaynes had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Messerly had 11 points. Fetter had eight points and ten steals. Jean Jackson had four points.

"The ball movement and teamwork that was demonstrated this past weekend couldn't have come together at a better time as we head into tournament week," Coach Kill Eagle said. "If the girls are able to maintain their rhythm throughout the week, we might just shake things up a bit at tournaments."

Dodson ended the regular season with a 5-11 record. The Lady Coyotes were 4-4 in the district.

The Lady Mavericks picked up a pair of wins last weekend finishing 11-7, and 6-2 in the district. The team defeated Lustre Christian 44-25 on Friday, February 8, in Lustre. They went on to defeat Frazer 57-39 on Saturday, February 9, in their final home game of the season.

In their win over Lustre, the Mavericks were led by Kaitlyn McColly, who had 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Jaycee Erickson had 12 points, five rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Kia Wasson had seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Kelsee Cummings had seven points and four rebounds and Danika Soper had three points.

In their win over Frazer, the Mavericks were led by Erickson, who had 19 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Erickson was 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Wasson had 14 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. McColly had 10 points, seven rebounds, and five steals, Cummings had six, Sarah Boucher had four, Soper had two and Montaya Idler also had two.
