One Nation, Under God

Adena Delores "Deanie" (Hanson) Halley

Lakewood, Calif. - Adena Delores (Hanson) Halley was born March 19, 1930 at Bowdoin, Mont., the ninth child of Edward O. and Alma Sophia Hoium Hanson. Her father was a house-mover and the "village" blacksmith and her mother a housewife. They moved to Malta in the mid 1930s and Deanie attended public school there.

While still a teen she went to Kalispell, Mont., so she was working as a phone operator. Her brothers Orville and Gordon also lived in Kalispell so she was with family.

While there she met Navy veteran and pilot Harry Halley, Jr., and when they decided to marry, he flew them in a light plane back to Malta where they were married on September 5, 1947, with her mother's permission. On the return trip to Kalispell, they hit some turbulence near the park, making things exciting for a while.

Shortly after their wedding, they moved to California, finally setting up in Lakewood, a suburb of Los Angeles, where they raised two children, Bruce and Janice, while Harry worked at the Los Angeles International Airport.

They took tours all over to see as many places as they could. Deanie was always a good dancer and when Harry was expected to dance at his employer's functions, he took lessons. They became good partners, entering in many contests and winning most of them.

Deanie suffered several strokes and passed from related complications. She is preceded in death by husband Harry, son Bruce, mother and father, five brothers. Henry, Orville, Earl, Gordon, and Norman, three sisters, Gladys, Agnes Eskestrand, Lucille Overby, and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by daughter Janice, grandson Chris and his wife, Marie, and their son, of Lakewood, Calif., granddaughter Sindy and family from Indiana, and one sister, Eldora Henry, of Malta, Mont., and many nieces and nephews.
