One Nation, Under God

M.E.S. Science Fair

A total of 40 projects were entered into the 2019 Malta Elementary School Science Fair, up seven from last year, and each was on display last Tuesday ahead of the school's award ceremony held in the gymnasium on Wednesday.

"It was another wonderful effort by these students," Bridgett Ereaux said. "We had a good showing in the lower grades of the school and each project is very well done."

The MES gym bleachers were stacked with students, parents, and science fans at the award ceremony and one sixth grade student had an eventful day ahead of the afternoon event.

"I became an uncle to a niece this morning," Mathew Hunter said. "I went over last night to Havre, stayed the night there and got to meet her and her name is Bristollyn Mae. I kind of wanted a nephew."

Hunter added and improved to his science fair project from last year in which his purpose was to answer the question of if "radio telemetry help biologist predict wolf patterns" (and his conclusion said 'yes.')

"This year I learned that (wildlife experts) are using drones, airplanes, and helicopters to track the wolves," Hunter said.

A lot goes into pulling off the MES Science Fair each year, including the work the student's parents conducted in assistant their children, the judges who spend long hours at the event ahead of the award ceremony, and the people and businesses who provide the trophies, ribbons, and other support.

"There are a lot of moving pieces," Ereaux said.

Ereaux thanked the PIE organization for their donations to the event; as well as Lynn Nevrivy, Albertsons, Westside Food Court for their donations for the judge's tables; Judges Rosemary S. Veseth, Marko Manoukian, Kent Gordon, Katie Smith, Casey Cote, Thea Solberg, Aimee Salveson, Darleen Kolczak, and Greg Kelsey. She also said the event would not be possible without the help of Mardy Demarais, Jill Hould, Kayla Wyse, Damien Austin, Natalie Judd, Julie Moore, Mariah Moreno, Marie Alexander, Shelley Dunbar, and Melissa Dunbar. The trophy sponsors for the day (see all trophy, medal, and ribbon winners below) were Wyse Trucking (Roy and Kayla), Lankford Farms (Bonnie and Jerry), Westside Self Service (Bridgett and Bob Ereaux), and Eric and Dara Wilke of Todd's Technology.
