March 11, 1919

Mrs. Catherine Weikle was elected president of the Malta Woman's Club. Mrs. C.E. Secrest was elected vice president; Mrs. Fred C. Gabriel, corresponding secretary, and Mrs. F. W. Hall, treasurer.

The J.F. Murray residence was damaged by fire to the extent of about $1,200.

Earl Partridge had returned from France.

The United Brethren Church choir had sung the sacred cantata "The Nazarene" at Easter services.

Four teachers had resigned from the Malta High School staff.

John Crowley and Ray Gardiner had arrived safely on this side after service in France.

Mr. and Mrs. Iver Tunelisu were surprised by their friends upon returning from their honeymoon.

H.G. Robinsons had purchased one of the new Essex cars just placed on the market.

Chapman Taylor was among the seriously wounded Phillips County servicemen to return home.

Carnival at City Hall

The Kiwanis and Key Clubs of Malta are planning a carnival at the City Hall this Saturday from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. The fundraising endeavor of the clubs is to help them finance their local activities.

April 13, 1994

Brant's 2nd at Geo Bee

Brant Beyer, an eighth graders at Whitewater Junior High, finished second in the State Geography Bee held in Helena on April 8.

Others from Phillips County to qualify and participate at the State Geo Bee were Aaron Crowder from Malta, and Cara Adams from Saco.

Malta High School Drill Team

The 1994 Malta High School Drill Team is comprised of Becky Ginter, Sarah Hould, Lisa Lang, Lynn Nace, Jennifer Simanton, Michelle Losleben, Katie Curtis, Stacey Raymond, Kelli Barrett, Carly Lundstrom, Haillie Stiles, Melissa Murray, Katie Henry, and Serina Nulf and are under the direction of Sis Mann.

Dodson Prom Royalty

Reigning as king and queen of the Dodson Prom were Thomas Rutherford and Josephine Azure while Elizabeth Messerly and Charlie Stephens reigned as princess and prince.

Simser takes two firsts

At the Plentywood Invitational in Glasgow last Thursday, Trevor Simser earned two first place medals in both the discus (144-8) and shot put (47-7) to help lift the Mustang squad to a second place team finish just one point behind Glasgow.

Phillips County Junior Miss Program Saturday

Reigning Phillips County Junior Miss Caitlin Smith will host the 48th annual Phillips County Junior Miss Program at Malta High School.

Competing for the 2010 title will be Ashley Carney, Saleena Davis, Julie Petrie, Betsy Sullivan, and Shayna Watson.
