One Nation, Under God

Little Guys at Montana Open

On Saturday March 30 through Sunday, March 31, twenty-one Malta wrestlers headed to Billings to the Metra Park Arena to wrestle in the Montana Open.

For those who are wondering what the Montana Open is here is an explanation from the MT Open Tournament Director:

“The MT Open started with a simple idea; create a tournament that would bring together all the wrestling organizations across the state of Montana and give kids who wouldn’t normally wrestle each other a chance to compete. With the talented wrestlers across this state, the tournament has the potential to be very competitive. It has since grown past just the participation of Montana’s best wrestlers, but draws teams from all over the country creating one of the toughest wrestling tournaments held in the state and the region.” Writes Jason Wiers Tournament Director.

Malta had four wrestlers place on the Podium this year. Dre Oshio placed sixth (15 & Under 186), Laytin Erickson placed fourth (10 & Under 100), Kenan LaBrie (10 & Under 127) and Trevor Knowles (8 & Under 120 Max) both placed first. Great Job to all Malta Wrestlers who competed this year. Malta wrestling has a bright future.

LaBrie and Knowles each scored ten points for Malta. Erickson scored three points and Oshio added one point.

Other Malta Wrestling participants included Trent Blunt, Chastidee Blakesley, Steeler Blunt, Dylan Kinney, Taylin Johannesen, Spencer Gibbs, Colby Wright, Cameron Spencer, Benjamin Schiffbauer, Kiernan Young, Jackson Wright, Straud Simms, Ivan Lefdahl, Cameron Mikesell, Callan Mears, and RC SKiff.
