Panthers at the Havre Lions meet

The Saco Panthers Track Team saw their second meet of the 2019 season on Saturday, April 13, as the team went to Glasgow for the Scottie Qualifiers meet.

The Panthers took sixth place as a team with 18 points, while the Lady Panthers took eighth place with 11 points.

“The kids put together a fairly stellar effort this weekend,” Saco Coach Barry Malone said. “It was very busy for a few of them because they were pulling double duty representing our school at District Music Festival in Malta, where they also had some awesome performances.”

Lone Lady Panther Jaycee Erickson took third place in javelin with a throw of 94-04, a new personal record (PR). Erickson also placed fourth in pole vault by clearing a PR of 8-06. She was sixth in the 200-meter-dash with a time of 32.43.

Murphy won the Scottie Qualifier pole vault event by exactly two feet, with Glasgow’s Caden Gustafson taking second by clearing 10-6.

Murphy and Erickson both qualified for state in pole vault. Murphy also took fourth in high jump by clearing 5-4.

“I know he can get higher but this was his first meet and with more practice it will come,” Coach Malone said.

Murphy posted a time of 30.19 in the 200-meter dash. He also posted a throw of 30-09 in shot put.

Chayten Pippin was fourth in triple jump. He recorded a mark at 32-11. Pippin also set a personal best of 14.38 in the 100. He posted a time of 29.68 in the 200.
