James (Buck) H. Taylor

James Harrison (Buck) Taylor II passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2019, in Goodyear, Ariz.

He was born in Helena, Mont., to James Harrison Taylor, Sr. and Edna Ray O'Brien. He attended first grade in Belgrade, Mont., before moving to Malta, where he graduated high school.

As a young man, he won many awards in O-Mok-See rodeos. He married the love of his life, Deborah Dopp in 1968 and worked on a dude ranch for the next year. Buck then spent eight years working on the Boyce Ranch in the Bear Paw Mountains before relocating to Saco. There, he and Deb purchased the Pay'n'Save Grocery Store and Butcher Shop. They later purchased the Saco Conoco and Saco Fuel Distributors. Buck served the community well as an active member of the Saco Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman on the School Board, Saco Dehy, and FSA.

Buck was a legendary cowboy, ranching his whole life. Family was important to Buck and he was very involved in his sons and grandson's activities including ranching and teaching them the value of hard work. He loved dancing, storytelling, playing cards, hunting, fishing at Nelson Reservoir and was an accomplished tournament fisherman at Fort Peck. He was a great entertainer full of laughter and had a bigger than life personality, making their home a common gathering place. He stood out among his peers and made each of his friends feel special. Buck was a great person, a true cowboy, just a man, and a horse...perfect. Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

Buck is preceded in death by his father, James Harrison Taylor, Sr. and his mother, Edna Ray O'Brien. Buck is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years and best friend, Deb Taylor, three sons: Jay Taylor and Tami Bergtoll of Tonopah, Ariz, Randy, and Maria (Gee) Taylor of Saco and Tyrel Taylor of Billings, a sister Jackie Taylor of Reno, Nev., and his five grandsons: RJ, River, Cash, Jon Rey, and Ivan.
