Judge John Hurly had ruled that the bondsmen of “Long” George Francis must pay the $2,000 bonds they had put up for Francis. “Long” Gorge had jumped his bond at Havre after being convicted of a cattle rustling charge. He was still at large.

Editor’s Note: “Long” George Francis was seen by some a bootlegger and thief, while others saw him as a Robin Hood type. In 2005, author and historian Gary A. Wilson penned the book entitled “Long George" Francis: Gentleman Outlaw of Montana.” Francis is also a member of the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame.
