The 2019 Montana high school golf season concluded on Wednesday, May 15, in Missoula, and Malta was represented by seniors Kloie Marks and Grayson Waters.

Amongst the girl golfers, Marks finished fourty-first with a two day toal of 233. Marks shot a total of 123 on the first day of the event on Tuesday, May 14. She saw her stroke count drop by 13 on day two as she had a total of 110 on Wednesday, May 15.

Grayson Waters took forty-fifth amoungst the boys golfers with a two day total of 199. He shot a total of 104 on the first 18 holes and 95 on the second 18.

“Grayson and Kloie both struggled day one of the state golf meet shooting way above their season averages,” Malta Head Coach Travis Somerfeld said. “Not being familiar with the course and nerves probably played a roll in their unusually high scores.”

Despite not starting well, Coach Somerfeld was proud of the duo’s effort on the second day.

“I was proud of both of them that they came and competed on day two of the tournament,” Coach Somerfeld said. “It would of been really easy for them to pack in the towel and call it a tournament, but again they battled and competed hard on day two.”

The boys event was won by Bucky Crippen who also won state in 2018. Crippen had a two day total of 140, including a day one total of 65. Second place went to Sweet Grass County’s Blake Finn, and third place went to Broadwater County’s Cody Graveley.

The girls event was won by Katie Fagg of Loyola Sacred Heart who had a total of 156 strokes. Second place went to Shelby’s Skyler Martin who had a total of 161, and third went to Fairfield’s Emma Woods who had a score of 162.
